Frequently Asked Questions

Question

What bike-wheel set-ups do most racers feel is best for this course? Do most racers prefer to use a rear disk and front deep dish, or are there too many hills and turns for a disk? If so, do most racers prefer to use front and rear deep-dish wheels if they can?

Answer

The deep dish would be fine. Lake Geode Challenge is a hilly course, but not a technical one. Many racers have used solid disks before with no problems.

Question

Can you tell me about the bike and run courses? How hilly are they?

Answer

Both courses are hilly at the beginning, and then rolling hills and flat stretches. The first challenge on both the bike and run courses is the hill leading out of the transition area. Both courses are out-and-back and wind around quite a bit with lots of trees in the park. There is one significant hill just past the dam. Lake Geode Challenge is a challenging and rewarding course.

Question

What can we expect for the water temperature at race time?

Answers

The water temperature is usually above 78 F, but you should bring a wetsuit just in case.
