May 17th, 2002Great River Health Systems recently promoted three individuals from within the organization to department directors. They are: Bobbi Ahlen, R.N., director of Great River Medical Center’s Emergency Department; Christy Des Jardins, corporate controller; and Cheryl Clawson, director of the hospital’s Patient Financial Services.
Ahlen began working at Great River Medical Center in 1986 after graduating from Southeastern Community College. She has been an emergency nurse for more than 15 years. Before being named department director, she was an Emergency Department supervisor for two years and served as the department’s acting director for eight months.
“I really enjoy the challenges of caring for patients with all levels of illnesses and injuries,” said Ahlen, who lives in Ft. Madison. “Providing immediate care and relief is very rewarding.”
Clawson, a lifelong Burlington resident, has been a member of the Patient Financial Services team for 16 years. She was a cashier for two years, a Medicare clerk for 12 years and insurance manager for two years.
“My education has consisted of on-the-job experience,” Clawson said. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to advance through the ranks and achieve this position on work experience alone.”
Des Jardins earned a degree in accounting in 1990 from the University of Northern Iowa. She passed the certified public accountant examination the same month, receiving an Elijah Watt Sells Award with high distinction for scoring among the top 1 percent in the nation. Des Jardins worked for McGladrey & Pullen in Iowa City for two years before transferring to the accounting firm’s Burlington office.
“My first audit in Burlington was at Great River Health Systems,” said Des Jardins, who lives in West Burlington. “Five years later, I began working there as the corporate accountant.”
