Great River Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program certification recently was renewed by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Three years ago, it was one of the first programs in the country to be awarded this certification.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to: limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiac illness; reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse; control cardiac symptoms; stabilize and/or improve patients’ conditions; and enhance patients’ quality of life.

In 2001, the hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation team helped more than 200 patients in the Phase II and Phase III programs at the Center for Rehabilitation. The team includes registered nurses, a respiratory therapist and an exercise physiologist.
