Due to cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, in southeast Iowa, Great River Medical Center is limiting visitors at the hospital and Klein Center. Children of any age may not visit family members or friends at this time.

Adults who have any type or respiratory symptoms also should not visit. Symptoms include:

• Runny nose
• Cough
• Fever
• Sore throat
• Congestion

Cases of whooping cough have been reported throughout the United States, including Cedar, Johnson, Lee, Linn and Scott counties in eastern Iowa.

“We’re joining many other hospitals across the country in taking preventive measures to avoid spreading the disease, especially to those who may have weakened immune systems already,” said Executive Vice President Tony Hayes.
