Beginning Wednesday, July 7, Great River Medical Center patients and visitors may use a convenient new shuttle to transport them from the parking lot to the hospital, Eastman Plaza and Mercy Plaza. The service will be available from 6 a.m to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A new $40,000 shuttle bus was purchased from a local vehicle dealership with funds donated by Great River Medical Center’s Auxiliary. The 13-passenger bus has 11 seats plus space for a wheelchair lift and two wheelchairs.
“We’re making parking easier and more convenient for our guests,” said John Mercer, Director of Facilities. “We upgraded the air conditioning and heating on the bus for the best possible comfort for everyone. We encourage all of our visitors to take advantage of this service.”
The shuttle will pick up patients and visitors from a designated area in the parking lot and make stops at each building entrance. Drivers will be trained to help passengers get on and off the shuttle, if needed. Six new part-time positions were created for this service.
The shuttle bus is equipped with a two-way radio so it can be dispatched for quicker pick ups at the hospital’s fountain entrance. The communication system also can be used to call for parking lot help with flat tires and other problems.
