April 4th, 2006Great River Medical Center has been surveyed by the Iowa Medical Society and has been awarded accreditation for two years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.
CME accreditation recognizes that the quality of an organization’s educational efforts meet certain criteria established by the state medical society and the national Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education. CME programs provide opportunities for physicians to acquire new skills and knowledge to maintain competence in their fields and to assure high quality medical care for their patients.
In addition, CME programs developed and sponsored by Great River Medical Center are eligible for category 1 credit toward the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award. Physicians may voluntarily apply for the award following completion of 150 hours of participation in various CME endeavors over a three-year period. In Iowa, 40 hours of category 1 CME also are required as a condition for license renewal under rules and regulations established by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
