October 24th, 2007Four community clinics gave local school districts a double benefit this past summer: They offered student athletic physicals at a reduced price, then donated half the proceeds to the athletic departments at schools the students attend.
The Mediapolis Clinic, Morning Sun Clinic, Wapello Clinic and West Point Clinic participated in the program. All are part of Great River Health Systems.
Altogether, 293 students received physicals, and Great River Health Systems, in turn, donated a total of $4,395 to these school districts:
• Central Lee
• Fort Madison
• Holy Trinity
• Morning Sun
• New London
• Notre Dame
• Winfield-Mt. Union
Certified physician assistants and a physician conducted the physicals and certified athletic trainers from Great River Center for Rehabilitation conducted total body orthopedic screenings, which included strength, range-of-motion and ligament testing. If weaknesses were found in any of these areas, such as tight hamstrings, the students received instructions for exercises that could help prevent sports injuries.
