December 17th, 2007

The Love Tree Program, sponsored by Great River Friends, provides an opportunity to recognize friends and family members during the holidays while helping fund scholarships for students who are pursuing health-care careers. In 2007, Great River Friends awarded $10,000 in scholarships.

The names of those honored or remembered are placed on decorative cards that are displayed on Love Trees at Great River Medical Center, Great River Klein Center and Mercy Plaza. Keepsake ornaments are included with donations of $20 or more per name. Vintage and patriotic styles are available.

Donors will become a Great River Friend or renew their membership for another year. A special ceremony to recognize donors is scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Mercy Plaza lobby. Ornaments will be distributed at the ceremony or they may be picked up in the hospital’s Volunteer Services Department through Thursday, Jan. 31.

Built on a 112-year-old tradition of service, Great River Friends is a community of donors and volunteers who support Great River Medical Center with their gifts of time, talent and treasure. Through the Volunteer Services Department, Great River Friends:

• Encourage the community’s support of the hospital
• Provide financial support for hospital services
• Provide scholarships to students pursuing careers in health care
• Recruit and use volunteers that help patients, Klein Center elders, families and employees
