November 16th, 2007

The Iowa Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and Great River Medical Center are offering a Medicare Part D Checkup from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the medical center, 1221 S. Gear Ave., West Burlington.

Medicare prescription drug plans (Part D) can change the premium and prescription costs, and drugs they cover every year. Seniors may save money by enrolling in a different plan for 2008. The annual enrollment period is Nov. 15 to Dec. 31.

SHIIP counselors will help people compare 2008 Part D plans to their current plans or present information to those who want to enroll for the first time. A representative from the Social Security Administration also will be available to help qualified residents apply for extra funding to pay for Medicare drug costs.

The Part D checkup is free and confidential. SHIIP is a service of the State of Iowa Insurance Division and does not sell, promote or recommend insurance or Medicare products. To schedule an appointment, please call (800) 351-4664. Participants should bring their Medicare card, current Part D plan card (if currently enrolled) and a list their prescription medications.

For more information, please call Great River Medical Center’s SHIIP office at (319) 768-3342.
