Great River Friends disbursed $27,695 in May. Ten area students who are pursuing careers in health care received $1,000 scholarships. The remainder was given to Great River Medical Center for projects to enhance patient services.

The winners of scholarships for graduating high school students who will begin studying for careers in health care are:
• Lindsay Anderson, Burlington High School
• Miranda Clark, West Central High School (Biggsville, Ill.)
• Jaymie Fraise, Wapello High School
• Audra Gahn, West Burlington High School
• Forrest Gerst, Ft. Madison High School
• Alyssa Griepentrog, West Central High School
• Erika Thye, Wapello High School

The winners of scholarships for students who are changing careers and entering the health-care field are:
• Kristen Gourley, Danville, Iowa
• Matthew Little, Burlington
• Kristin Vorwerk, Morning Sun, Iowa

The $17,695 donated to the hospital will be used for:
• Acute Care Center – Television/DVD/cart, chair-sensor pads and plush animals for the Stuffed Love program
• Day Surgery – Gliders for patient bays
• Hospice House – Game room items, quilt racks
• Klein Center – Flat-screen television
• Patient and family care, all units – Care Pages
• Postanesthesia Care Unit – CD players and CDs
• Women and Family Center – DVD/VCR players and educational materials
