February 4th, 2008The Great River Diabetes Education Program is offering group diabetes classes in February. A four-week afternoon series is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 11; a morning series is set to begin Thursday, Feb. 21. A physician referral for diabetes education is required.
Classes are taught by a registered nurse and registered dietitian who are certified diabetes educators. Topics include:
Understanding blood sugars
Developing healthy eating and activity habits
Reducing health risks
The fee for the class series is covered by most insurance companies. A family member or friend is encouraged to attend at no additional cost.
The Great River Diabetes Education Program is a service of Great River Medical Center. It has been awarded the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management program. Recognition assures that our education programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-management Education programs and are an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. It also is accredited by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Your insurance may require this for coverage.
