Great River Hospice is looking for additional volunteers to help meet the needs of people at end of life and their families in Des Moines, Henry, Lee and Louisa counties. A four-part training program is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. April 22, 27, 29 and May 4 at Great River Hospice House, 1306 S. Washington Rd., West Burlington.
Hospice volunteers may work with patients and their families in their homes or at the Great River Hhospice Hospice House. They also can help the program in many other ways, such as doing clerical work and planning fundraisers.
A two-part training program for those interested in becoming a musician volunteers is scheduled forom for 1 to 4 p.m. on April ember 22 and 29. Musician volunteers perform for patients to provide benefits including pain relief, stress management, memory enhancement and improvement of communication. Vocalists and instrumentalists are needed.
People interested in becoming a volunteer must pass a criminal background check and be at least 16 years old. Registration and completion of application materials is required before the training begins. Volunteers with previous hospice training also are encouraged to join the Great River Hospice team; only only an orientation is required.
