The Love Tree Program, sponsored by Great River Friends, provides an opportunity to recognize friends and family members during the holidays while helping fund scholarships for students who are pursuing health-care careers. In 2010, Great River Friends awarded $10,000 in scholarships.
The names of those honored or remembered are placed on decorative cards that are displayed on Love Trees at Great River Medical Center, Great River Klein Center and Mercy Plaza. Keepsake ornaments are included with donations of $20 or more per name. Traditional and whimsical styles are available.
Donors will be invited to a special ceremony in January to help celebrate their loved ones through prayer, a special reading of the names, presentation of name cards and ornaments, and refreshments. Those who do not attend may pick up ornaments in the hospital’s Volunteer Services Department through Friday, Jan. 28.
Built on a 115-year-old tradition of service, Great River Friends is a community of donors and volunteers who support Great River Health Systems with their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Through the Volunteer Services Department, Great River Friends:
- Encourages the community’s support of the health system
- Provides financial support for hospital services
- Provides scholarships to students pursuing careers in health care
- Recruits volunteers that help patients, Klein Center elders, families and employees
Love Tree donation forms are available at Great River Gift Shop in the hospital lobby. For more information or to request a form, please call Great River Medical Center’s Volunteer Services Department at (319) 768-3340.
