Making nutritious food choices is the topic of Great River Medical Center's next Diabetes Support Group meeting. It is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Maple Room on the lower level of Great River Medical Center, 1221 S. Gear Ave., West Burlington.
Patricia Steiner will present "Health Meals in a Hurry," an Iowa State University program that helps people of all ages blend time-saving convenience with nutritious, dollar-stretching food choices. She is a nutrition and health program specialist for the Des Moines County extension.
The presentation will include:
- Tips and recipes for 14 main dishes that can be prepared ahead of time and frozen for ready-to-use convenience.
- How to stock your freezer with ready-to-reheat main dishes along with "eat now" and "eat later" directions.
- Tips on modifying recipes to reduce sodium and fat, and guidelines for alternative ways to prepare the recipes for freezer storage.
