The Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa (HPCAI) recognized Chris Oleson, Director of Great River Hospice in Mount Pleasant as she officially retires from serving on the association’s Board of Directors. Oleson was recognized for her service at the HPCAI 28th Annual Meeting in Ames, IA on November 2.
Oleson is the immediate past president of HPCAI, has served on the Board since 2004 and has been participating in Association activities for nearly a decade. Her involvement has been in leading or participating in Association committees and work groups including the HPCAI Advocacy Committee, the Hospice Residence Networking Group, and the HPCAI Data Workgroup. She also has been active in her region in volunteering to co-chair HPCAI District meetings to connect member agencies in Southeast Iowa.
Oleson has also been active regionally and nationally. She has represented HPCAI member hospices at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) meetings at the regional office in Kansas City, MO, and led member visits to Iowa’s Congressional Delegation in Washington, D.C.
At the Annual Meeting, HPCAI Board President Lori Bishop presented Oleson with a commemorative gift and on behalf of the Board and member hospices and expressed gratitude for Oleson’s tireless dedication to the Association over the past 10 years in leading and assisting Iowa hospices in providing quality end-of-life care to patients and their families.

The Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa (HPCAI), formerly the Iowa Hospice Organization, is a voluntary membership association representing 72 hospice agencies providing end-of-life care through 112 locations across Iowa. The association is governed by a board of directors and has been in existence since 1981. The HPCAI office is located at 100 East Grand Avenue in Downtown Des Moines.
