Great River Friends is accepting applications for scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year. Scholarships are for high-school seniors or adults who have been in the workforce and want to transition into the health-care field. The goal of the scholarship program is to help students reach their career goals and encourage quality health-care providers to stay in or return to the community. Students already enrolled in college who are changing their majors are not eligible.

Great River Friends is a community of donors and volunteers who support Great River Health Systems with their gifts of time, talent and treasure.

Scholarship criteria include:

  • 3.0 minimum grade point average
  • Applicants must live or attend schools in Great River Medical Center’s service area (approximate 60-mile radius)
  •  Applicants must be pursuing a career in health care

Scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, March 15. Applications are available from high-school counselors, on the hospital’s Web site, www.greatrivermedical.org, or by calling Volunteer Services at (319) 768-3341.
