Lake Geode Challenge, an Olympic-distance triathlon in southeast Iowa, has been selected as a regional special qualifier race by USA Triathlon’s Midwest Region. USA Triathlon is the governing body for triathlon in the United States. The race, which has been sanctioned by USAT since it began in 1993, will hold the special-qualifier designation for two years. Top finishers at Lake Geode Challenge may qualify for the Age Group National Championship.
This year’s Lake Geode Challenge will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Geode State Park in Danville, Iowa. The event starts with a 1.5 kilometer clockwise, out-and-back swim from the Lake Geode beach. The swim is followed by a 40-kilometer bike course that takes participants on a loop outside Geode State Park. The race concludes with a 10-kilometer run on asphalt roads throughout the park. Chip timing is used.
Prize money ($300, $200, $125, $75 and $50) will be awarded to the top five male and female finishers. Rick Buller Financial Services, LLC, also is sponsoring cash awards ($125, $75 and $50) to the top three male and top three female Masters (40+) finishers. Participants cannot win an overall cash award and a Masters cash award. Members of the top three male, female and coed teams will receive trophies. Participants also will be eligible for door prizes.
Registration fees are $65 for single and $123 for teams through June 30. After June 29, fees increase to $85 for single and $141 for teams. Entry fees do not include USAT’s required one-day $12 permit for non-member participants.
The race is organized by Team BEAST (Burlington Endurance Athlete Sports Team). Great River Health Systems is the lead sponsor.
Participants may register on getmeregistered.com. Registration cutoff is Wednesday, July 10. Send questions to email@example.com, or visit www.lakegeodechallenge.org for more information.
