Great River Athletic and Performance Center is scheduling pedaling efficiency assessments from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, on the lower level of Great River Wellness Plaza. Participants should enter at Great River Cancer Center, 1315 W. Agency Road, West Burlington.
Whether riding for pleasure or competition, bicyclists can ride faster and farther when using a full pedal stroke. The pedaling efficiency assessment is a real-time computer-assisted test of how well a cyclist applies pressure to the pedals for each leg throughout the pedal stroke.
Each session is about 45 minutes. After a 15-minute warm-up, staff will use a Computrainer SpinScan to measure the pedal stroke. Great River Athletic and Performance Center staff will use the real-time SpinScan results to show participants how to improve efficiency. Participants also will be videotaped during their pedal-stroke assessment. The session will conclude with a review of the video to assess any knee movement that may be robbing pedal-stroke power.
The fee for the pedaling assessment is $35. Participants do not need to bring their bikes; two stationary bikes will be available for warm up. Biking shoes must be SPD compatible; regular athletic shoes are acceptable.
